WASHINGTON, August 16, 2024 - The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Canada of AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II+ and Block II Tactical Missiles and related elements of logistics and program support for an estimated cost of $264.6 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale on August 15, 2024.
The Government of Canada has requested to buy forty-eight (48) AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II+ Tactical Missiles; one hundred twenty (120) AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II Tactical Missiles; forty-eight (48) AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II Captive Air Training Missiles; forty-eight (48) AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II Special Air Training Missiles; four (4) AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II+ Tactical Guidance Units; twelve (12) AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II Tactical Guidance Units; and eight (8) AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II Guidance Units. The following non-MDE items will also be included: Active Optical Target Detectors; KGV-135A COMSEC chips; missile containers; training aids, spares; support equipment; training, missile software; and U.S. Government and contractor technical, engineering, logistical, and program support; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated total cost is $264.6 million.

WASHINGTON, August 22, 2024 - The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Romania of AIM-120 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles and related equipment for an estimated cost of $592 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today.
The Government of Romania has requested to buy up to one hundred eighty-six (186) AIM-120C-8 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) and four (4) AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM guidance sections. The following non-MDE items will also be included: AIM-120 Captive Air Training Missiles (CATMs), missile containers, propulsion sections, control sections, telemetry kits, and warhead spares; KGV-135A Cryptographic Devices; Common Munitions Built-In-Test (BIT)/Reprogramming Equipment (CMBREs); ADU-891 Computer Test Set Adapter Groups; spare parts, consumables, accessories, and repair and return support; munitions support and support equipment; classified and unclassified publications and technical documentation; classified and unclassified software delivery and support; warranties; studies and surveys; transportation support; contractor logistics support (CLS); U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated total cost is $592 million.

El misil desde luego es grande de cuidado, casi como un misil de crucero.El AMRAAM se queda ridículo comparado a este. Con el rango que tiene, te da igual lo furtivo que seas, ahora que a ver como se designan los objetivos.

Pues con los aviones furtivos yendo por delante, con toda los aviones ISR/EW(AEW en red y pretenden hacerlo a finales de década con toda la constelación de satélites desplegada.
Sin olvidar que hablamos de la Navy a la que le sobran los buques con radares AEGIS de largo alcance. -

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today.
The Government of the Netherlands has requested to buy up to two hundred twenty-six (226) AIM-120D3 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM); up to five (5) AIM-120D3 AMRAAM guidance sections, to include precise position provided by either Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module or M-Code; and one (1) AIM-120 AMRAAM Integrated Test Vehicle (ITV). The following non-MDE items will also be included: AMRAAM control sections, missile containers and support equipment; KGV-135A encryption devices; spare parts, consumables and accessories, and repair and return support; weapons system support and software; classified software delivery and support; classified publications and technical documentation; transportation support; studies and surveys; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated total cost is up to $807 million.

At the end of December, the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) and Diehl Defence signed the contract for the development and series production of the IRIS-T Block II Overall Missile System. The contract was realized in the shortest possible time by the IRIS-T Project Management Office (PMO), BAAINBw and Diehl Defence. In addition to Germany as lead nation, Sweden, Spain and Italy also join the development program. The BAAINBw signed the contract on behalf of this consortium. The IRIS-T Block II contract marks an important milestone for the future of IRIS-T.

Despite such laconic reporting, there's actually some extra information about the upgrade disclosed previously, all collected by Defense Express. For starters, in the same December, the Bundestag mentioned it among the 38 defense projects greenlighted with an investment of €21 billion total, including 25 million euros for the works on IRIS-T Block II specifically. This relatively small amount of funds for research may explain why Diehl decided not to elaborate on the scope of work.
Especially since the content of the IRIS-T Block II project was earlier described by Diehl Defence Chief Program Director Harald Buschek at the ILA Berlin Air Show 2024, in June. According to Buschek, the updated version of the missile will receive a new homing head, improved electronics, and the ability to exchange data mid-flight.
Therefore, the IRIS-T Block II is expected to retain the same launch range (25 km in air-to-air variant) and warhead weight (11.4 kg). On the flip side, the response speed, range, and quality of target acquisition, noise resistance, and other parameters derived from its electronics component will reach a new level.
