Porque funciona, el calibre es relativamente barato y hay multiples tipos de municion para todo uso. . -
Si funcionar yo ya sé que funciona de la misma manera que el mosint nagant o un M-60 pero se sabe de algún intento reciente,5 o menos años,de sustituir ese calibre y arma?

No son comparables, entre ellos hay grandes diferencias:
Peso de un cartucho de .50 (12,7x 99 mm) = 114 gm.
Peso de un cartucho de 30x113 mm = 490 gm.Precio. Habría que buscarlo, pero el del 30x113 mm es mucho mayor.
