• Electric batteries in their current form would make a long-haul flight too heavy to take off. Only a massive step-change in battery density, nearly tripling the energy density every decade for the next three decades, could solve this challenge.
• A large aeroplane using liquid hydrogen combustion would be able to take off and land, but a large
cryogenic tank and supporting infrastructure is lacking. An LH2 combustion aircraft would also produce significant contrails that would need to be further studied. Using fuel cells would further increase the cost and take-off weight.• Flying using liquid methane would enable a widebody to take off and land. It poses a number of technical challenges and high cost, even if the necessary infrastructure is closer to being ready.
• Ammonia produced from green hydrogen is deemed a promising hydrogen carrier. Nonetheless, its use would lead to an excessively heavy long-haul aircraft.
• To have enough solar panels to power an A380, you would need to cover the plane – and add at least 7.4km of panels behind, making this the least practical solution of all.
• All of these solutions would require colossal amounts of electricity to generate the required power. To decarbonise all EU27+UK long-haul trafficby 2050, aviation would need between a net square of 24 km to 35 km of solar photovoltaic panels at the average EU solar irradiance 3.98kW/m2/day, or 2,853 to 6,374 offshore 20-MW wind turbines or 10% to 23% of all EU electricity.
• The level of decarbonisation depends largely on the carbon intensity of electricity used during the entire process from well to wake. Wind-generated electricity shows a remarkable CO2-eq reduction of -79% to -96% compared to conventional jet fuel. Photovoltaic electricity may have a slight decrease in CO2-eq reduction efficiency, ranging from +7% to -69%. Utilising coal-sourced electricity for flying using these solutions could increase the CO2-eq emissions by 3 times (for battery aircraft) to 11 times (for liquid hydrogen fuel cell aircraft).

Por ejemplo,si quieres ir de Madrid a Lisboa, lo óptimo ,medioambientalmente hablando,sería hacerlo en tren pero dado que no existe una alternativa de calidad la gente usa el avión.
Para territorios insulares como Canarias por narices es necesario el avión.
Por cierto,Europa emite poco en términos relativos y menos aún si consideramos su riqueza. -

Amsterdam, 1 July 2024– Airbus SE (stock exchange symbol: AIR) has entered into a binding term sheet agreement with Spirit AeroSystems in relation to a potential acquisition of major activities related to Airbus, notably the production of A350 fuselage sections in Kinston, North Carolina, U.S., and St. Nazaire, France; of the A220’s wings and mid-fuselage in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and Casablanca, Morocco; as well as of the A220 pylons in Wichita, Kansas, U.S.
With this agreement, Airbus aims to ensure stability of supply for its commercial aircraft programmes through a more sustainable way forward, both operationally and financially, for the various Airbus work packages that Spirit AeroSystems is responsible for today.
The transaction would cover the acquisition of these activities. Airbus will be compensated by payment of $559 million from Spirit AeroSystems, for a nominal consideration of $1.00, subject to adjustments including based on the final transaction perimeter.

@champi De hecho, DIRIA que son consecuencia uno del otro:
- Spirit era proveedor de piezas de Boeing e Airbus.
- Boeing compra Spirit, para integrarlo en Boeing, por 4700M$.
- Spirit, para no entrar en conflicto de intereses, le vende las cadenas de produccion de partes de Airbus a Airbus.
Todo para que algo propiedad de Boeing no este fabricando piezas para Airbus, y haya retrasos, defectos de fabricacion o malos rollos.
O eso es lo que me ha parecido entender de toda la movida, vamos.

Location: Christchurch, New ZealandToday we are announcing the completion of another flight test campaign of our Mk-II rocket-powered aircraft The campaign (dubbed Campaign 2-2) saw three flights completed in late July. In flight three, we achieved a maximum speed and altitude of Mach 0.92 (967 km/h) and 50,000ft (15.1km). That is 3x and 5x of what we had achieved in the previous campaign – a massive jump in demonstrated performance.
We are now poised to fly supersonic in Campaign 2-3, scheduled for September. But that is just the beginning. In many respects, the Mk-II is slated to be the highest-performance vehicle to take off from a runway.
By the end of 2025, we’re looking to
· climb faster than an F15,
· fly higher than a Mig 25,
· faster than an SR-71, and,ultimately, be the first vehicle to fly above the Karman line; 100km altitude (the generally accepted definition of “space”), twice in a single day.
Some of these records have stood for over 50 years.
