los más radicales están a punto de acabar con el gobierno islamista moderado

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/8047750.stm

"Pro-government forces have been locked in battle with radical guerrillas and 25,000 civilians have reportedly fled.Sources say the government's leadership is crumbling and many of its troops have defected to the rebels. Our correspondent says Mogadishu has seen plenty of fighting over the years but this appears on a different scale.

Wednesday's fighting focused near the presidential palace in the Wardigley district and in the north of the city at the Bondere and Karan areas. Now they have boxed in the government forces and African Union (AU) troops supporting them to a narrow pocket of territory inside the capital.Military and intelligence sources say it is by no means certain the fragile Western-backed interim government can defend itself, according to BBC East Africa correspondent Peter Greste.
If not, Somalia becomes the West's worst nightmare: A strategically placed country under the control of Islamic militants with links to al-Qaeda"

Young men in Sweden traveling to Somalia to participate in the radical Islamist militia al-Shababs fight.

A handful of people with a Swedish passport have been killed in the fighting, according to SAPO.Security Police (SAPO) estimates that around 20 people have traveled from Sweden to train for and participate in the conflict with al-Shabab, considered to get their inspiration from al-Qaida.

- Currently considered a dozen Swedes in place in Somalia. Either they participate in acts of violence or are in training camp, but there may be a HIDDEN. What worries us is that it is ongoing and growing, "said SAPO's chief analyst on the device for kontraterrorism Malena Rembe to Svenska Dagbladet.

There are not only Swedes with Somali background, but it is a mixed ethnic group, according Rembe. Some of them travel without telling family members what to do.This is the people who go down on their own initiative. They see themselves as part of a global struggle and want to contribute.

AL QAEDA se traslada a África

http://edition.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/06/12/alqaeda.africa/index.html

"Al Qaeda operatives are leaving the battle zones along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border and heading for Somalia and Yemen, where they have set up training camps, according to U.S. intelligence officials. The officials believe that al Qaeda may see the Horn of Africa as its new headquarters after dozens of attacks from U.S. drones along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. The officials could not be named because of the sensitive nature of the information. However, CIA Director Leon Panetta said the intelligence agency is keeping tabs the region as a possible destination for fleeing al Qaeda operatives. Residents and journalists in Mogadishu, Somalia's capital city, have reported seeing foreign fighters among Al-Shabaab, the radical Islamic militia that is battling to overthrow the weak transitional government.

Those foreign fighters have recently distributed recorded messages from al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden calling for the overthrow of President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed's government.Al-Shabaab is blamed for a surge of violence in Somalia as insurgents fight the government to implement a stricter form of Islamic law, or sharia."

CIA operatives have secretly traveled to Mogadishu, Somalia, to help interrogate terrorism suspects about operations in East Africa and Yemen, a senior U.S. official told CNN Tuesday.

The official, who was not authorized to speak publicly, stressed any suspects were under the control of Somali forces and the CIA was present only in "support" of interrogations in recent months. He described the number of times the CIA was present as "very small," adding that he would only say it was "one or two times."

Civilians are reported to be among 10 people killed and 50 injured after Kenyan jets targeted al-Shabab militants in southern Somalia.

A Kenyan military spokesman told the BBC the planes had targeted the outskirts of the town of Jilib.

He said fighters of the al-Qaeda-linked Islamist group had been killed.

But Medecins Sans Frontiers said it was treating those hurt in a strike which MSF said struck a camp for displaced people, killing three civilians.
