De las muchas versiones del Harpoon, España utiliza la versión naval RGM-84D Bloque 1 y Bloque 1C y la versión lanzable desde aviones (de momento solo por el F-18) AGM-84L Bloque 2. Ambas son muy buenas versiones, la de la Armada con alcances extendidos hasta los 220 km y posibilidad de introducir puntos de paso o “waypoints”, aspecto muy importante. La versión del Ejército del Aire es más moderna e incorpora guiado por GPS, que permite atacar con mayor precisión. El empleo de guiado adicional por GPS supone una importante mejora y por ello la Armada tiene previsto modernizar sus misiles Harpoon llevándolos a un estándar Bloque 2.
