The Polish government decided on December 27th, 2002 to buy rather than lease new fighter aircraft, and that the winner of the Polish fighter tender was Lockheed-Martin.
Up to 48 F-16 Block 52 aircraft will be delivered (36 C's and 12 D's).
The major element in this deal was an offset agreement between Lockheed-Martin and the Polish government, which sees an amount of up to $9 billion return in the Polish economy.
The new Polish F-16 Block 52 aircraft will be powered by the Pratt and Whitney F-100-229 engine. The aircraft will be fitted with the latest avionics available, including the APG-68(V)9 radar which provides high-resolution ground imaging, enabling day/night all-weather, precision weapons delivery and the ALQ-211(V)4 electronic warfare suite which will ensure that the aircraft possesses an unequalled countermeasures system.
Armament
Furthermore the deal also includes a major weapons package, including the AIM-9X Sidewinder and the AIM-120C AMRAAM missile, as well as GPS-guided Joint Stand-Off Weapon (JSOW-C) and Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) bombs for use in day/night and adverse weather conditions.
The aircraft are fully compatible with the latest high-tech targeting and navigation sensors and reconnaissance platforms.
El pasado día 14,(de septiembre de2004) en el Polígono del Arenosillo (Huelva), se realizó con éxito el lanzamiento del misil AMRAAM desde un avión F-18 del Ejército del aire.
Poland received its first batch of MiG-29's in 1989 when nine MiG-29 type 9-12A's and three MiG-29UB type 9-51's were delivered to the 1.PLM at Mińsk Mazowiecki. These twelve aircraft were augmented by nine additional single seaters and one two seater from the Czech air force in 1996.
The Fulcrum fleet was upgraded by WZL-2 at Bydgoszcz in order to make them compatible for NATO operations.
During this program the aircraft are resprayed in an attractive new grey colour scheme.
Additional MiG-29s arrived at the beginning of the century when 23 former Luftwaffe MiG-29s were delivered. These aircraft are expected to enter service in 2007 after being overhauled at Bydgoszcz, however four were already delivered to 41.elt at Malbork following a limited overhaul.
The 46 MiG-29's on the inventory are expected to remain in use until 2010/2012 when 36 new fighters will be needed as replacements for the MiG-29's and the Su-22's.
