No recuerdas mal, Kopelson.

Greece and the US sign agreement for sale of additional F-16 block 52+ jets

December 13, 2005 - The governments of Greece and the United States have signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) for the sale of 30 additional F-16 Block 52+ aircraft to Greece, with an option for an additional 10 aircraft.

The new aircraft will supplement the existing fleet of Hellenic Air Force (HAF) F-16 aircraft and continue the modernization of the HAF. The total program value for the initial 30 aircraft is approximately $ 1.99 billion U.S. Lockheed Martin's portion of the total program is estimated at $1.2 billion U.S.
(...)
The F-16 has been continually upgraded throughout its production history. The Block 52+ is one of the most modern and capable F-16 versions ever built, providing a major leap in capabilities over earlier models. Capability enhancements include an expanded core computing capacity, improved communications and a larger selection of precision weapons.

The Hellenic Air Force will take delivery of the new aircraft in 2009.

* 40 F-16C/D Block 52+ aircraft with F100-PW-229 engines and APG-68(V)9 radars;
* 42 Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing Systems;
* 40 AN/AVS-9 Generation III Aviation Night Vision Goggles;
* 190 LAU-129/A Launchers;
* 48 Link-16 Multifunctional Information Distribution System-Low Volume Terminals (MIDS-LVT);
* 3 Link-16 Ground Stations;
* 10 LANTIRN Targeting pods;
* 11 Reconnaissance pods;
* 2 Reconnaissance Ground Stations;
* 40 APX-113 Advanced Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) systems;
* 43 AN/ALQ-187 Advanced Self-Protection Integrated Suites;
* 6 spare F100-PW-229 engines;
* 3 APG-68(V)9 spare radar sets;
* 4 AGM-154C Joint Standoff Weapons;
* 6 Joint Direct Attack Munitions (3 BLU-10 and 3 MK-84 bomb bodies);
* 4 Wind Compensated Munitions Dispenser.

Grecia posee:

29 F-16C Block 30 (de 1989-1990)
4 F-16D Block 30 (de 1989) ( descontados ya 5 C y 2 D perdidos en accidentes)
32 F-16C Block 50 (de 1997-1998)
8 F-16D Block 50 (de 1997-1998)
34 F-16C Block 52 (de tan sólo 2002-2004)
16 F-16D Block 52 (de 2002-2004)

TOTAL: 33 Block 30, 40 Block 50 y 50 Block 52.

Russia has signed a preliminary agreement to sell $500 million worth of military aircraft to Thailand in what would be the first such deal with the traditional U.S. arms client.

"We signed a memorandum for 12 Sukhoi-30MKMs during President Vladimir Putin's visit [last week] to Malaysia," a senior official at Irkut, the privately controlled maker of the Sukhoi fighter, said Friday. Putin was in Malaysia for a summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Thailand originally agreed to buy the jets last year but put off the deal after a tsunami that killed hundreds of thousands of people hit the region last December.

The Irkut executive, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of negotiations, said the memorandum of understanding also included delivery of helicopters to Thailand.

"We have gone half the distance and expect to sign the contract in the first half of next year," said Alexei Fyodorov, Irkut board chairman.

"This is good news for Russia, we haven't sold a single cartridge to Thailand," said Konstantin Makiyenko, deputy head of the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies. "It also means that Russia has taken over the region -- we have fighter jets in China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and now Thailand."

Makiyenko estimated that the deal would bring Russia at least $500 million. Rosoboronexport, the state arms sales agency, was not available for comment Friday.

Meteor missile starts flight tests

International missile systems group, MBDA, launched a series of flight trials of the new Meteor missile in an unprecedented test programme involving Europe's three new fighter aircraft '' Gripen, Rafale and the Eurofighter Typhoon. All three fighters will be equipped with the new Meteor Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile under the six-nation missile programme for which MBDA is the Prime Contractor. Meteor took to the skies on the French Navy's Rafale M on Sunday 11th December for a week-long series of flight trials from the French Navy's Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier. These mark the first carrier-launched flight trials of Meteor. On 13th December, a separate campaign commenced in Sweden with flight trials of a Meteor Avionics missile from the Swedish Air Force's Gripen combat aircraft while the first flight of a Eurofighter Typhoon carrying Meteor is scheduled later this week from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire, UK. Marwan Lahoud, Chief Executive Officer of MBDA, said: “This week represents an important milestone in the Meteor development programme. It is especially important that all three platforms destined to be equipped with Meteor are flying in the same week as this demonstrates the full significance of this international programme. Not only are we looking at a weapon system that will significantly enhance the air-to-air capabilities of the air forces of six nations, Meteor is proving itself to be an excellent example of what can be achieved through effective European collaboration. MBDA is also proving its unique ability in understanding a range of national requirements and in supporting the integration of a weapon system on three platforms simultaneously”.
A joint MBDA / Dassault Aviation team managed the trials of Meteor from the Rafale M, the single-seater carrier-based version of the Rafale combat aircraft now in service with the French Navy. Under these first carrier-based trials, around 20 catapult launches are being undertaken, a number of “touch-and-go”touch downs and around 20 full deck arrests to provide a fully comprehensive handling test of the aircraft armed with the missile. For this test, which is taking place in the Mediterranean from the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, an Environmental Data Gathering (EDG) missile has been fitted to the Rafale, alternatively to its rail (under-wing) and eject (under-fuselage) stations. The EDG missile is an instrumented missile possessing all the dynamic properties of an operational missile in terms of size, weight and aerodynamic shape. With this missile, data on shock and vibration levels linked to the specific environment created by catapult launch and deck arrest will be gathered and analysed. This test is the latest in the ongoing Rafale EDG programme designed to gather data on the missile within its full operational envelope.

Y la ultima:

IRIS-T delivered to Luftwaffe

With delivery of the first IRIS-T (InfraRed Imaging System '' Tail/Thrust-Vector Controlled) missiles to the German Federal Office fí¼r Military Technology and Procurement (BWB), Diehl will start series deliveries of over 4,000 guided missiles to the six European program nations in late 2005. The air forces of Germany and the partner nations Greece, Italy, Norway, Sweden and Spain will receive the latest-generation air-to-air guided missile as standard weapon system for the Eurofighter, Gripen, F-16, F-18 and Tornado aircraft types.
Over decades, Diehl BGT Defence has gathered experience as prime contractor, project manager and system integrator of large European and transatlantic development and production programs. As system house, Diehl BGT Defence has delivered more than 35,000 Sidewinder missiles of various types to almost all NATO partners since the early 1960s. Sidewinder is an air-to-air missile for use within the pilot's visual range. The missile has been integrated in almost all European and US fighter aircraft and is today in service in more than 30 countries. In the mid-1990s, Diehl BGT Defence decided to design a new short-range missile, based on own studies. In 1996, the definition phase began, which was followed by the 4-year development phase in 1998, in which Greece, Italy, Canada, Norway and Sweden participated. In 2002, Spain joined the IRIS-T consortium and Canada left it. In January 2003, the German Parliament approved German procurement of the new weapon system and in October of the same year, the six nations involved in development agreed on series preparation. In December 2004, the contract on IRIS-T series production was signed by BWB and Diehl BGT Defence, with BWB acting on behalf of all six IRIS-T program nations. The contract has a total volume of approx. 1 billion Euros and makes a major contribution to securing Diehl's core capabilities in the field of missiles.

Thailand denied media reports on Dec. 20 that Bangkok had decided to buy 12 Russian fighter jets worth $500 million.

”It's just a discussion, we haven't agreed on anything,”Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra told reporters in between meetings of his cabinet in this city in northern Thailand.

”I think that it's a misunderstanding on the wording as there is no agreement to buy yet,”he said.

The Moscow Times daily said Monday Russia had last week signed a preliminary agreement on the sale of the fighter jets to Thailand while the Interfax news agency also said that a definitive contract, involving barter trade, would be signed in mid-2006.

Defense Minister General Thammarak Isarangura Na Ayutthaya said the reports were “fabricated”but added Thailand was in talks over the purchase of jets with Russia, Sweden and the United States, the latter which had traditionally sold arms to Bangkok.

Thaksin said Thailand needed more technical details about a plan to possibly buy 12 SU-130 fighter jets, which was conditional on barter trade between Bangkok and Moscow.

”We have to continue our discussions and we have discussed in general terms that if we wanted to buy, we'd buy 12 of them by barter trade,”he said.

”There would be no broker and if there is any discount it should be in the form of extra equipment coming with the jets,”he added.

If the Russian purchase is agreed, Thailand would also upgrade its American-made fleet of F-16s, Thaksin said.

He said he believed Thailand would not have problems with the United States were Bangkok to buy Russian jets or aircraft from other countries.

”It's our right to buy from any country, and we have a right to buy from various countries,”the premier said, adding the government would make a final decision on the purchase by the end of the first quarter of next year.

RIYADH (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia expects to conclude a deal with Britain for military aircraft soon, the kingdom's defence minister said in remarks published on Wednesday.

Prince Sultan bin Abdul-Aziz, in comments reported by the state-run Saudi Press Agency, would not disclose details.

But he told reporters after talks with visiting Defence Minister John Reid: "God willing, we hope to conclude in the near future a deal for modern planes with Britain."

A senior source close to the deal told Reuters an accord might be signed later in the day after Reid meets Saudi King Abdullah.

Sources close to the negotiations had said the deal was likely to involve Saudi Arabia buying at least 48 Eurofighter Typhoon jets, with an option to raise that to 72.

The Eurofighter consortium includes BAE Systems , Airbus parent EADS and Italy's Finmeccanica
