The Yugoslav aircraft industry was certainly very active under Tito’s Communism, the Ikarus factory -what a great name- was the activest. The 452M was a single-seat experimental aircraft of extremely unconventional configuration. The wing and tail surface were swept, the later attached to a pair of short booms and supported by a small central fin. Of all-metal contruction the 452M was powered by a pair of modest Turboméca Palas turbojet superinposed one above the other -just like the bisonic Lightning. If that wasn’t enough, each of these jets was fed by a pair individual of air intake; the lower by the wingroot intakes and the upper by a pair of weird intakes positioned above the rear fuselage.
The maiden flight of the first of two prototypes was on Jul,1953. The test results shouldn’t have been very convincing… later aircraft of Ikarus (SOKO) were sure more pedestrian.
