Düsseldorf (ww) Compact mortars help infantry and special forces to have their own steep-fire capability. In this way, even entrenched enemies can be combated at distances where the flat firearm or the grenade machine weapon no longer goes.
Rheinmetall has now unveiled its new RSG60, a new 60mm mortar weapon for infantry and special forces. It has novel design and construction features.

Rheinmetall RSG60 as standard infantry version... (Photo: Rheinmetall) The approximately 70 centimetre long weapon tube is made of steel with a carbon fiber wrap to achieve the necessary strength on the one hand and a lighter weight on the other. The weapon tube is about 30 percent lighter than a conventional steel mortar tube. The base plate is made of a carbon fiber composite material.
The innovative design of the weapon has a space-saving effect and allows users to make the mortar ready for fire from the transport position in just a few seconds. Furthermore, the RSG60 is presented as a "two-in-one solution". The standard version of the handy steep fire system, weighing 15.8 kilograms, can be converted into a 6.8 kilogram command mortar with just a few simple steps and without tools. The required loosening of four retaining bolts takes only about 30 seconds.

... as a command variant... (Photo: Rheinmetall) Rheinmetall specifies the range of the standard version at up to 3200 meters, depending on the ammunition and cargo. With a pipe extension of about 30 centimetres, it can be increased by around 500 metres. In the command variant, the RSG60 reaches a range of around 2000 meters.

... and in transport position (Photo: Rheinmetall) The development of the new mortar weapon began in October 2017. Rheinmetall's goal was to add an associated and promising weapon to the portfolio of its versatile 60mm mortar ammunition family and its fire control components. From the very beginning, weight savings, speed and ergonomics were at the heart of the DEVELOPMENT work of the RSG60. The RSG60 has already successfully completed several test shootings.

Incluso en un arma tan sencilla como el mortero ligero se puede innovar , algo.

Sería una buena dotación para las unidades de Operaciones especiales, paracaidistas y de montaña, Repartiendolo por las compañias en sustitución del viejo ECIA 81.

saludos
